Council of Architecture and Urbanism of Brazil
2025
Recently, I had the honor of winning the public competition to design the new brand identity for the Conselho de Arquitetura e Urbanismo do Brasil (CAU/BR) and its entire ecosystem of sub-brands. More than two thousand projects were submitted from professionals across the country, in a meticulous process involving expert juries in design, architecture, and related fields, as well as a popular vote among architects and urban planners. The entire evaluation was conducted anonymously, ensuring that the spotlight remained solely on the strength of ideas and the quality of the work.
More than a design project, this was an opportunity to revisit the history of Brazilian Architecture and Urbanism, bringing back the essence of the modernist movement and honoring Oscar Niemeyer, its greatest icon. The new identity was born to bridge past and future, strengthening the Council’s presence throughout the country and creating an emotional bond with the community that lives and breathes architecture every day.
The creative process began with Niemeyer’s unmistakable lines. By studying his work, we transformed his iconic curves into a meaningful vector. The result is a logotype that is elegant, fluid, and timeless — more than a visual signature, it stands as a symbol of legacy and future.
As Niemeyer searched for inspiration in the curves of our rich nature, the color palette draws inspiration from Brazil’s natural tones: colors that evoke the earth, vegetation, and the cultural richness of our territory. At the same time, their maturity and sophistication connect seamlessly with a contemporary urban context, creating a visual identity that is proudly national without being literal, and striking without being loud. This project reflects the spirit of a strong and forward-looking institution — one that values its history while inspiring the next chapters of Brazilian architecture.
